Cavan town genealogy research center 4/6/2009

This is the church Ed and I attended on the previous Sunday...it is built on the site of our ancestors living area---there were 18 houses on the site where they livdand farmed. The probably worked for Marquis Headfort who owned most of the surrounding property in the area.
Add ImageVirginia at the end of the cemetary coming back to the car.
Virginia and Judy trying to do a rubbing so we could read the inscription above the grave...we finally got it clean enough to detect what was written aboutold Patrick and his wife Ellen.
Well, for Pete's sake...here is a KING!!!! Could be one of our ancestors. This grave site is behind the old church in downtown Virginia and had we not been told of it, we never would have found it.
Here is Virginia in Virginia...I told her that when whe gets old and forgets who she is, she can drag this photo out and recall our time in Ireland. It took us 3 days to get her to stop at this sign so we could get a picture.

We are at the County Cavan research center in Cavan Town and the lady in the genealogy center was able to trace our family history back to the 1700's...two generations further than Judy had ever been able to find. We ate a small lunch in a small cafe and then back here to the library. It is cold, windy and wet outside. We also found out that the church Ed and I attended on Sunday was built right over the King-Smyth family home site.....amazing piece of information we would never have found out had we not come here.
