Friday July 24, 2009

We started the morning with breakfast at the lodge in Banff. Scenery at the table window was spectacular. Then drove toward Calgary and stopped along the way to take a game drive around Lake Minnetonka. We only saw wild mountain sheep and goats. They were very close. No bear, deer, elk, caribou, or moose. Darn! We also stopped along the way to view a place called lower Bankhead, which in the early 1900's was a coal mining town. The coal was used to power steam engines, but it began to run out and by 1922 the government closed it and that was the end of the town, but a few Italians created a monument with a photo album to view. D'Amico's. After arriving in Calgary we got into a monumental traffic jam, so we stopped and found a motel and chilled for a while before dinner. We did find the Catholic Church and Mass is tomorrow at 5 p.m. I think we'll try and go to the Aerospace Museum tomorrow. It's Saturday, so the traffic should be lighter, we hope. Overnight stay here will provide a respite for dad. WLY all. m and d
