Today our lady guided us from Plano to Dallas to see the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Museum and the 6th floor of the Texas Book Depository where Lee Harvey Oswald took aim and killed our 35th President of the USA. The entire story is retold here on the 6th floor which is preserved just as it was November 22, 1963. Having lived through that terrible time, it was all brought back vividly. The following photos tell some of the story, but pictures are allowed only on the first floor at check in and outside around the building, so I'm sorry we can't show you the whole story. For our children, I had just put you all down for a nap that day and settled in to watch my soap "As the World turns" when the program was interrupted with the terrible news that our president had been shot and was being taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. A short time later (20 minutes), we were informed that he died. Dad was sent home from work early. The following days were filled with grief as we watched Jackie and the two small children escorting their husband/father to the airport, then to the capitol rotunda and then following him in the funeral parade. We watched as Vice President Johnson was sworn in as the 36th President on Air Force 1.
We arrived in Killeen at 4:30 p.m. and called Desi, but her phone is out of order, so we called Taylor and they were together, so we are meeting them for breakfast in the morning at Green Beans where Desi works. We went to Fort Hood tonight and got a 2 day pass and found Green Beans so we won't get lost in the morning. They had plans to go to a friends house for a BBQ tonight, so we went to a Chinese Buffet down the street for dinner. It's been a long day! 103 degrees!
